Under this self-anointed moniker and mission statement Cine-Magic came to life at some point in 2001. The group was formed as a loose collective of like-minded Midwestern filmmakers and Super-8 enthusiasts. Over the course of several years Cine-Magic created a diverse body of work which included award-winning shorts films, a one-of-a-kind video club, music videos and commercial work.
Based in St. Paul, MN., and comprised mostly of Wisconsin natives, the Cine-Magic collective had a distinctively Midwestern sensibility and work ethic. Additionally the group prided itself on it's DIY work methods and aesthetic.
Over the course of only a few years the Cine-Magic group created several short films of varying scope and scale. The group started off making short, Super-8, minimalist sketches and went on to make several longer format short films. Cine-Magic's short films have traveled the world and have screened at numerous film festivals.
Not satisfied with simply creating a number of short films, the Cine-Magic collective created a video club to self distribute their films and unique video finds to like-minded friends and connoisseurs. The ambitious video club swelled to service a large & loyal membership and went on to inspire the internationally celebrated Found Footage Festival.
Despite it's relatively brief life, Cine-Magic created a wealth of memorable works and continues to influence the individual members in their future work.
